Pity The Child

Sammy held Lennon close. "I got you Lennon, I got you."

"I miss getting hugs..." Lennon said sadly.

"I know sweetie, I know," said Sammy. "You'll get plenty from me, I promise."

Lennon slowly lifted his head and smiled at Sammy before turning his head to cough again.

Sammy smiled, kissing the top of Lennon's head.

Lennon smiled again, brushing his hair off his face.

"Rest now," Sammy said softly. "You need it," she added, tucking Lennon into bed. "I'm gonna go check on your dad."

Lennon nodded and curled up, slowly closing his eyes.

Sammy closed the door as she left. "Adam?" she called softly

Adam was in the living room, pacing angrily and mumbling to himself.

Sammy came down the stairs, sighing when she spotted him. "Baby..."

Adam didn't respond, too busy mumbling angrily.

Sammy walked over and stood in front of him. "Addy..."

Adam suddenly stopped, almost crashing into her. "What?"

Sammy wrapped her arms around him. "You okay?"

"Yeah...maybe...." Adam said slowly. "No...." He added after a pause.

Sammy nodded. "I know," she said with a sigh. "Lennon's in bad shape....."

"How bad...?" Adam asked, looking worried.

"He's wheezing pretty badly right now," said Sammy. "When he wakes up, I'm gonna see how high that fever is, if it's too high then we need to take him to the ER."

Adam nodded, pulling a face as he tried not to vent anger in his usual, loud way.

"I know baby, I know," Sammy sighed softly. "We'll get them away from her, okay?"

Adam nodded again, hugging Sammy.

Sammy hugged Adam back. "Poor Monte's so scared."

"They both are...Lennon's just too stubborn to show it..." Adam said.

Sammy chuckled softly. "Kinda like you?"
